One of the finest examples of Byzantine architecture, the Gračanica Monastery, built in 1322, is one of the main Serbian Orthodox monuments in Kosovo. Built on the ruins of an ancient basilica Christian, this monastery in the shape of a cross and with five domes is only 7 km southeast of the capital. Built thanks to a donation from King Milutin Nemanjić, the monastery presents a mixture of Byzantine elements and Gothic and stands out for its beautiful frescoes very well preserved dating from the 14th century. The monastery is registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
